February 4, 2015

The Alerion 28 Fleet 1 executive board is pleased to announce our 2015 Season Racing Schedule. Racing is scheduled in March, April, June, August and October.

Races are on Saturday, with the exception of the San Francisco Yacht Club Fall Classic, which is a 2 day event. All races, less one throwout, will count toward our Season Championship.

Social events are planned after each race. Non racing members are welcome to join us for any of the post race social events.

Rites of Spring – Oakland Yacht Club- Saturday, March 14.

A distance race with start and finish in the vicinity of Treasure Island. Party after the race at Oakland Yacht Club.
Look for registration information and race documents at http://www.oycracing.net

Richmond Yacht Club Intra Club Series -Saturday April 18, Saturday June 27, Saturday August 22 and Saturday October 17

Buoy races will be run from the RYC committee boat, Pelican. Starts and finishes in the well-known Southampton area. There will be separate divisions for Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker racers, a Wabbit and Sport Boats division and for the first time by invitation an Alerion 28 One Design division open to all Alerion 28’s . Please Register now on the Richmond Yacht Club website, http://www.richmondyc.org. BE SURE to check the individual Sailing Instructions for each race day. We’ll try to send the RYC fleet to parts of the bay with good wind, favorable current and minimum interference from other events

First Warning will be at 2pm which is later than last year but the idea is to keep us all on the water until closer to the scheduled EARLY DINNER TIME so please plan on a full day at RYC on each of these dates. Special events are being planned for each race day evening. For example April 18 will feature a combined Chili Cook off and Movie Night. Look for more details from Chili event Chair Mary Lou Clark.

$50 entry fee for 4 race series includes one ticket to German Dinner on the final day of the series. Additional tickets are available for $20 per person.

Overnight berthing before and after each race is available at no charge to any Alerion 28 owned by a member of a reciprocal yacht club. Berthing should be arranged in advance by contacting the RYC harbormaster, John Dinwiddie at (510) 234-6959 or harbormaster@richmondyc.org.

SFYC Fall Classic- October 10 and 11
Two days of buoy racing in the Knox area. Past races have been well run and it’s fun to race with the Knarrs, Birds, IOD’s and Folkboats. PuPu’s and wine and beer on the sunny SFYC deck after Saturday racing. Overnight berthing is usually available on Friday and Saturday nights. Full meal service at SFYC including breakfast. Look for registration information and race documents at http://www.sfyc.org in late August or early September.

Look forward to seeing you out there in 2015.

Alerion Racing Starts for 2013

  • We have at least five boats registered for the Richmond Yacht Club Big Daddy Regatta on March 9. There will be at least three races on the 9th. There is still time to sign up. Any other boats interested in joining the fun can register at www.RichmondYC.org.
  • We also have several boats that will enter the Oakland Yacht Club Rites of Spring Regatta on March 23rd. The Rites of Spring is an intellectually challenging “Around the Bay Race” with a wide variety of conditions.  It is always interesting! So far, Jewel, Dream and Ditzy are committed. If you would like to enter, this link has the Notice of Race and Entry form.   www.jibeset.net/OYC000.php?RG=T009481331
  • You should also put the Summer Classic, run by SFYC,  on your calendar. It will be held on July 20 and 21. There are two races scheduled on Saturday and two on Sunday. Racing is usually on the Knox Course. There is a party on Saturday after the races. For the last few years our fleet has raced this fun event when it was known as the Fall Classic, but due to the Americas’ Cup it is being held earlier this year.

Big Changes for Alerion Sailboats!

We’re excited to announce that US Watercraft, LLC of Portsmouth, Rhode Island has acquired Alerion Yachts as a continuation of a collective strategy to offer world-class sailing yachts and customer-focused yacht services. The acquisition includes Pearson’s other premium boat brands; True North Yachts and North Rip Sportfishing Boats, as well as its staff and manufacturing operations in Warren, Rhode Island. As a licensed builder of multiple J/Boat models, the Farr 40 and Farr 30, US Watercraft offers a full suite of service and storage services under the Waterline Systems name at its waterfront location in Portsmouth Rhode Island.

With years of combined boatbuilding heritage, the resulting synergies between the Alerion team and US Watercraft will allow us to further our inventive approach to marketing, design and boatbuilding. Expect to see more innovative and successful Alerion models in the near future along with more personalized opportunities to experience Alerions on the water.

Now with a waterfront marine facility capable of caring for our customers after the launch of their boat, we can be an active part of the ownership experience for the life of the boat. As an organization that values continuous contact with its customers, we are excited about this new capability. Portsmouth, RI is a hub for New England yachting and a perfect place to not only service but demonstrate the sailing capabilities of Alerions.

During a time when manufacturing jobs continue to leave the US, we’re eager to carry on our tradition of building boats in New England under our new corporate structure. More than ever, Alerion stands poised for a promising future and we’re looking forward to experiencing it with you!
