Is that light at the end of the tunnel?!

Vaccines are happening….and with some thought and caution, we are seeing some reason for optimism. RYC beer can races continue to be fun and exciting…. as are the SSS and YRA races. Thanks for all who make this possible!

We are tying to keep up with the AE28 race schedule; both for the season championship standings and in order to find as many opportunities as possible to get out and enjoy a safe COVID activity. Here is the latest, as we know it.

The times, they are a changin…and our racing schedule is trying to keep up

As we navigate the Covid world, the various sailing organizations and clubs are doing the same…so we all need to be patient with, and thankful for, the ever-changing race and event schedules.

We have added the YRA double handed series to our calendar of race events…and have noted the YRA’s double handed Bay Expedition date change from 8/21/21 to 7/11/21.

Take a look at the revised race calendar, and feel free to be in touch with any changes you learn of. Stay healthy. Be kind. Sam

Berkeley Yacht Club Midwinters

Sunday Race 3, 1/10/21

Sunday was a light, but fun showing of AE28s for the BYC Midwinters race. Variable winds made it a fun afternoon of working through the shifts. Many thanks, Berkeley Yacht Club, for making this series possible, fun and safe during Covid.

Happy New Year!

I think it is safe to say that we all in Alerion Fleet 1 are happy to be into a new year. We are all hoping for good things ahead; let’s hope for and work for better, safer, healthier, happier. Onward!

Please stay tuned for good Alerion things as well. We should have an updated version of the bylaws and class rules by the end of February, 2021.

Web site updates….

As a new fleet year comes around, we are trying to keep the AE28 Fleet One site updated and relevant. Please provide comments, suggestions and content.

In addition to the fantastic Tech Corner data the site contains, we will be adding information as we learn; trying to share and preserve information about these fine boats.

To that end, take a look at the ‘Technical Resources” section of the site and feel free to suggest other topics. Based on our recent fleet Zoom meeting, cockpit swamping and steps to avoid it seemed important and of interest….

Also, keep an eye on the Fleet’s Instagram account (#sfbayalerion) for photos….

Beer Can Races are back on San Francisco Bay!

It’s fantastic to be racing again, with proper safety precautions. Richmond Yacht Club has been enjoying strong Wednesday night turnouts for the past few weeks, including five Alerion Express 28s racing last night. The fleet is growing!

A fantastic photo, below, by RYC’s own, Ornaith Keane

Fleet update in the time of Corona….and another (!) AE28 wanted on the San Francisco Bay….

Dear Fellow Alerion 28 Sailors,

I hope you and your families are all well.  I have nothing new to report nor will I endeavor to guess when racing will return to SF Bay.  I will leave those sorts of announcements to official sources.  The Alerion 28 is a great boat – even better when you consider its prowess for shorthanded sailing.  Denise and I have seen many of you out enjoying your boats on the Bay over the past few weeks.  We hope to see more of you out sailing when the is time right – whenever that is…

Once there is a clear path to some sort of organized racing, I will reach back to our fleet to reestablish an event calendar for the remainder of the season.  I think the theme of keeping it simple and getting more boats out sailing will resonate even more strongly than before.

Stay well!

Best,

Chris

PS – BOAT WANTED:  Bruce Munro (on copy) is looking for an Alerion 28.  Let’s try to help Bruce locate a local boat.  Please contact him directly at blmunro@sbcglobal.net if you are interested in selling your boat. Thank you.
